The Signet Library

An early spring wedding at The Signet Library

Laura and Tom met while working together in London but it was only when Laura fell ill from altitude sickness while trekking on her own in Nepal and had a chance to slow down that she realised she needed to get her priorities straight and head back to London and the man she wanted to marry!

The rest, as they say, is history and this urbane and stylish couple were bowled over by The Signet and envisioned their perfect day from the moment they laid eyes on it. They selected a subtle dusty pink, silvery grey and blue theme for their linens and flowers, gracefully arranged by the inimitable Planet Flowers. The early spring date leant an additional charm to the dusty, soft colours and the timeless elegance of The Signet’s grand spaces served as a beautiful canvas for the spring wedding affair.

With a guest list of just under 80 people the couple were excited to wow guests with their choice not only of venue but menu. Everything about the wedding supper suggested their excellent taste – from the unusual and elegant choice of oval tables to the classic, warm gold and cream linens in the Upper Library – Laura and Tom made sure the food stood out too.

After a moving Humanist ceremony in the Lower Library, officiated by celebrant Tim Maguire, canapés made the rounds and fizz flowed. The spectacular array featured a galette of free-range chicken confit; bite-sized tartlet of smoked chicken and pecan salad with mango salsa; sushi rice balls with pickled ginger and crayfish rolled with sesame seeds; confit of fig, Ayrshire goats cheese and honeycomb crostini.

Dinner was served in the Upper Library with a seasonal pea and mint panna cotta to start followed by highland beef with onion and tomato dumplings, potato rosti and seared baby tomatoes. A cardomom and rhubarb cheesecake was another seasonal touch.

After dinner instead of the usual coffees and teas the couple tasked the Heritage Portfolio resident mixologist to create a signature cocktail to kick off the evening’s festivities. A Tamarind Margarita was served along with more fizz and the results were a spectacular evening full of dancing and fun with a brief respite for bacon rolls before dancing the rest of the night away.

“We just wanted to drop you an email to thank you, Ian, Melissa and the entire team at Heritage Portfolio for making our wedding go without a hitch. We were delighted with how things ran on the day and truly appreciate the huge amount of work you did to make the day so special.''

“The standard of the food throughout the day was exceptional, as was the interaction of the staff with our guests. Please also pass or thanks on to the WS Society. Our guests were awestruck by the venue, and particularly complimentary about the Upper Library. Thank you again.”
