The Signet Library

Lauren and Douglas’ Spring Wedding 2023.

Love always finds a way, even in the midst of a pandemic. During their Covid walks, Lauren and Douglas serendipitously discovered the Signet Library in Edinburgh. As fate would have it, both of them had returned to the city during these challenging times. Without this connection, their paths may never have crossed. Now, Edinburgh holds a special place in their hearts, forever intertwined with their love story. Join us as we dive into the mesmerising tale of Lauren and Douglas, a testament to the power of love amidst uncertainty.

How was the big question popped?

Douglas had started commuting back and forth to Angola as we prepared for our move to the Congo in November and on a trip back he surprised Myself (Lauren) with a weekend in Loch Lomond at Cameron house in August of 2022. We had a beautiful lunch and decided to head to the loch for a swim in the sunshine. Doug proposed in a quiet, tree and wildflower-filled bay on the bank of Loch Lomond - I was genuinely surprised and spent the rest of the day crying - happy tears of course!

The surprise continued when we went to terrace bar to celebrate - Doug had arranged for our parents to be there to join in the celebrations! There are hilarious stories as part of the planning and execution of the proposal which we enjoy a laugh at every time we get together and is a very special memory for us.

How did you end up choosing to get married at The Signet Library?

We have both lived overseas for a long time and we knew we wanted to do something that was easy for everyone to get to, with lots of accommodation options so central Edinburgh ticked all the boxes. It really stood out to us during our venue search because of its fantastic location and incredible interior.

Did you enjoy preparing for your wedding and the whole planning process?

I (Lauren) will have to be honest and say no I did not enjoy it BUT… I loved working with Olivia and the Signet Library Team. Olivia really helped me identify a timeline and amazing suppliers and made the entire planning process (done remotely from the Congo) so easy.

She arranged THE most beautiful menu tasting which just got everyone all excited about the event and really kick-started the planning. Part of the reason we chose the Signet Library is the quality and professionalism of the team - It was invaluable to me since I wasn’t based in Edinburgh at the time.

Did you have a theme for your wedding day?

We wanted fresh, clean, impactful florals with a touch of cornflower blue to pull together the bridal party’s dresses and ties. The AMAZING Gemma at Planet Flowers absolutely nailed it and brought the delicate touch of blue to the table and venue decorations - including the beautiful orders of service, signage, and place settings. They designed THE most amazing table plan which made everyone go WOW.

Tell us about your menu, how did you select this and what did people say?

We had a unique pea panna cotta to start which was our favourite! It was so fresh and beautifully presented - it kicked off the whole ‘Spring’ menu so well! Everyone was raving about the food - luxurious catering for 100 people is a tall order - but the Heritage Portfolio chefs hit it out of the park - not only was everything beautiful to look at - it was SO SO SO good.

People always said you don’t get to eat at your wedding, or you won't eat that much… we both cleaned our plates!

Tell us about your favourite moment.

We couldn’t name just one - but coming out the doors of the Signet Library onto the Royal Mile and being covered in confetti and well wishes from all our family, friends and random tourists was pretty special!

If you had to describe your big day in three words, what would they be?

Emotional, Timeless, Meaningful
