Reviews

We're delighted to have opened Colonnades, Edinburgh's most glamorous tea salon. If you're tempted to visit, read some of the fabulous reviews we've had recently.

'...Afternoon Tea at The Colonnades was filled with homemade pastries made by chefs with over 20 years experience and set in one of the most beautiful venues in Edinburgh. Does afternoon tea get better than that?...' Read more

"Afternoon Tea is just an excuse to eat loads of cakes and pastries, everybody knows that cake is good for you providing it is stacked vertically. The sheer excitement of seeing tiered treats will burn as many calories as you consume.

The insanely good salted caramel tart was just the right size to avoid any dependencies from, and the mille-feuille was light and fresh, a stark contrast against the rich chocolate"... Read more

"My partner is a chocolate fiend. He was head over heels in love with the Belgian chocolate and sea salted caramel tart. I always order the fruity puddings but I have to agree that this little treat was something special. If they were available to order I’d be there waiting to collect! The chocolate ganache was rich and creamy, the caramel just salty enough to balance the crunchy pastry tart case – Wow!" Read more

"Rather than the traditional three tiers of an afternoon tea, the Colonnades place as much emphasis on the savoury elements as the sweet, so we began with an entire stunning stand of savoury goodies, including delicious bites such as fresh prawn cocktail with mango salsa, a brioche Aberdeen Angus mini-burger and Edinburgh Gin-infused smoked salmon on oatcakes. The sweet treats that came next - another whole stand - were the stuff of dreams. Particular favourites were a tart lemon sorbet, passion fruit and mango eclair, lemon meringue tart in a crisp pastry adorned with stunning sugarwork and a classic mille feuille, with homemade pastry layers, organic cream and Perthshire berries."  Read more

'.... And talking of perfect things, let me move on to the Belgian chocolate and sea salted caramel tart. It's better than it sounds, and I know that to a lot of people that sounds amazingly good. While a fan of chocolate, I'm not a devotee, so I can normally take it or leave it. This tart, I cannot leave: it was wonderful, the balance of flavours just right, the pastry crisp and flaky, the caramel properly oozy and the chocolate full of dark chocolate notes. This is probably the best chocolate tart I've ever had'. Read more

'...Everything was absolutely breathtaking, the vegetarian selection was particularly perfect. I certainly did not feel I was missing anything from the 'normal' version at its side...The setting was spectacularly grand, but amazingly comfortable, fit for royalty, celebrity and common folk alike. The food was unbelievable, with huge attention to flavours and detail...What a treat...'  Read more

Gluten Free in Edinburgh

'...The highlight for me, given my love of them, was the mille feuille: full of cream and strawberries and really light and crumbly…I cannot praise it highly enough. If you want the finest gluten free afternoon tea in Edinburgh, this is where you have to go.' Read more

A zesty lemon meringue tart was possibly the best version of this classic we have ever tasted thanks to the light crisp pastry and perfectly balanced curd. The scones were miniature versions of this afternoon staple, allowing us to enjoy but not overindulge .... The chocolate and salted caramel tart, tangy rhubarb fool and light mille-feuille were all devoured and left a smile on our faces for the rest of the afternoon.

The Colonnades has nailed afternoon tea. A sense of occasion, stunning setting, food perfectly imagined and executed and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon...'  Read more

'…The mirrored tables were stunning, the glassware was impeccable and the presentation of the afternoon tea selection beat every other afternoon tea I’ve ever had… I fell in love with Colonnades from the moment I sat down. From the incredible surroundings to the interior finishes and the decadent touches, it really is set to become the venue for afternoon tea in Edinburgh.’ Read more
