A beautiful backdrop for any occasion, the room, lined with classical pillars, casement bookcases, and surrounded by a an upper balcony with ornate balustrade, has as its centrepiece a cupola painting depicting Apollo and the Muses alongside a selection of poets, orators, historians and philosophers across the ages, including Burns, Shakespeare, Newton and Bacon.
The Upper Library is a magnificent venue for wedding celebrations, corporate events, gala dinners, drinks receptions, product launches…the list is endless.
At the west end of the room is the so-called Garnkirk Florence Vase, in classical “Greek Thompson” style, ideal for a spectacular floral display. Furniture made especially for the room by the famous Edinburgh furniture maker William Trotter enhance a distinguished and stately setting for your guests to enjoy your cocktail reception or formal dinner. Guests will be truly impressed with the room’s magnificent features, which include a massive stained glass window commemorating Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and incorporating the royal coat of arms and the heraldry of the WS Society and its office bearers from the Victorian age.
