Julia & Rick's Stunning Spring Wedding at the Signet Library, Edinburgh

Julia and Rick live in London but right from the start of their engagement they envisioned a beautiful spring wedding in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. When they chose the Signet Library as their wedding venue they were enchanted with the stunning features of the Library and an early May date confirmed their delight. The ceremony was held at St Giles so guests had a short wander to the Signet for a champagne reception with canapés in the Lower Library.

Canapés included freshly podded peas with radicchio, haloumi and a lemon sabayon, a free-range chicken confit with sage and onion jam and pancetta slithers, crisp fennel seed toasts with smoked trout, apple and dill, and our signature hot venison chipolatas roasted in sticky redcurrant syrup.

As guests progressed to the Upper Library for the wedding dinner they paused to identify their tables from the seating plan, a charming and unique layout designed by the bride and groom and featuring a large circular table full of silver picture frames, some vintage and some modern, one for each table with the guests names inscribed.

The spring wedding theme was evidenced throughout with neutral linens, ivory and cream detailing, peach, spring greens and pinks were the colours of the day – and the flowers by Planet Flowers certainly lived up to the theme. Lovely and fresh, the arrangements echoed the colourway perfectly.

The place settings displayed each guest’s name on flags speared in green apples. Wine bottles with cream ribbons and a beautifully printed card with the table numbers carried on the look of an artfully arranged spring picnic!

Julia and Rick selected favours for their guests – chocolate from Edinburgh’s own award-winning chocolatier, The Chocolate Tree, made to order in their initials with little chocolate teddies for the children.

Dinner was held upstairs with a gold and cream theme. The Regals, a string quartet, played throughout the dinner and early evening to everyone’s delight.

The dinner menu presented guests with a choice of gallette of confit mediterranean vegetables, mascarpone, rocket leaf and pimento syrup; sweet potato and caramelised onion tart, smoked apple wood cheese, apple chutney and basil oil; or roast corn fed chicken fillet, wild mushrooms, pea risotto, and roasted pine kernels finished with a sauternes jus.

Finishing with individual lemon cheesecakes served in Kilner jars with rose meringues and a homemade marshmallow, was the perfect touch.

As the evening entertainment commenced the Upper Library was dramatically lit in ‘Broadway pink’ and the string quartet gave up the floor to Callinish for dancing.

The bride knew her guests and provided all the ladies with colourful flip flops as the evening wore on and dancing continued to the wee hours! Guests were sustained by a stunning cheese wedding cake from Neils Yard Dairy in London, decorated and styled by Planet Flowers. And bacon rolls of course, provided by us!

“We had the most magical day… Thank you.”
