The Signet Library

Former law student celebrates at The Signet Library

The wedding of Victoria and Craig earlier this year was one too special not to mention. With strong memories of student days spent at the impressive Signet Library, Craig took full advantage of his WS membership and indulged in all this unique building has to offer, making theirs a dream wedding.

After a church ceremony guests were treated to an open-top bus tour to soak up the sights of Edinburgh, while the beaming couple were fortunate enough to be granted special permission to have photos taken in the majestic Parliament Hall, a very special privilege exclusive to WS members. The couple effortlessly fused their Scottish and Welsh heritages and were piped upstairs to their reception to the charming Welsh anthem, Delilah.

Ever so appropriately, the wedding theme was punctuated by a nod to the literary nature of the beautiful Signet Library with Planet Flower’s imaginatively crafted vases wrapped in old book pages in the lower library, while upstairs the table centres tastefully mirrored this theme by using small piles of vintage books with flowers arranged in little pots on top. A summery and fresh elegance was brought to the impressive libraries with the tables draped in ivory satin and elegant roses gracing every table.

The bespoke menu was bold and original reflecting the couple’s personal tastes and boasting an impressive 6 courses. Beginning with quirky Scottish canapés with a wee twist - mini haggis pie with honey braised roots and mash, along with queenie scallops with pea purée and homemade tomato ketchup – they were as entertaining as they were delicious.

Slow roasted Ayshire pork belly with sticky honey miso gravy, and lavender pickled pineapple reflected the couple’s original style and guests were surprised and delighted with the bold and unique flavours. Pink grapefruit sorbet suitably refreshed the pallet, before the onslaught of garlic and rosemary infused roast rump of Lanarkshire lamb with all the trimmings. Finally, guests were treated to a tartlet of raspberries accompanied by raspberry ripple ice cream and raspberry sauce, light enough to ensure that everyone had energy reserved for dancing and merriment later on.  Evening guests did not miss out on the culinary spoils as a superb buffet of haggis, traditional stovies and fresh coffee was just the ticket to fuel guests for dancing until dawn.

A wedding of quality and distinction, the kind of elegance that The Signet Library does best.
